How to Warm Up Faster Before Lifting

A good warm-up does not need to take half an hour. Most lifters can be ready for their first working set in about 10 minutes if the warm-up is built around the session instead of a long, generic routine.

OCTANE Pre in use at the gym

Start with 3 to 5 minutes of easy cardio

Bike, row, jump rope or a brisk incline walk. The goal is to raise your body temperature and breathing a little, not to tire yourself out. If you can hold a conversation, the pace is right.

Move the joints you are about to load

Spend 2 to 3 minutes on dynamic movements that match the day: leg swings, bodyweight squats and hip openers before squats or deadlifts; arm circles, band pull-aparts and push-ups before pressing. Keep moving rather than holding long static stretches.

Ramp up with lighter sets of the first lift

Ramp-up sets are the most specific warm-up there is. Start with the empty bar or a light weight for 8 to 10 reps, then take two or three bigger jumps with fewer reps each until you reach your working weight.

For a 225 lb working set, that could look like 45 x 10, 135 x 5, 185 x 3, 205 x 1.

Where a warming cream fits

A warming cream does not replace any of the steps above. What it adds is a feeling of warmth on the skin over the muscles you are about to train, which many lifters like to have in place before they start.

OCTANE Pre is built for that window: apply 2 to 4 pumps to the target area 10 to 15 minutes before training, while you do your cardio. It starts with a cooling rush, then a visible pink flush, then a comfortable, sustained warmth that lasts through the session. Wash your hands right after applying.

A 10-minute example

Minute 0: apply OCTANE Pre and wash your hands. Minutes 1 to 4: easy bike. Minutes 4 to 7: dynamic movement for the day's lift. Minutes 7 to 10: ramp-up sets. Then start your first working set.

For external use only. Cosmetic product. Patch test before first use, and stop use if irritation persists.
